Premieres Cotes de Bordeaux
Around 3.500 ha of vineyards belong to the appellation, planted mainly with Merlot for reds but also with white grapes for sweet wines - which are sold under the same appellation name, or the better ones under the Cadillac designation. Dry whites from here can only qualify for the AC Bordeaux. This long stretch of land (50 km) has soil that is calcareous and gravelly near the bank - the most valuable parts - and largely clay more inlands. Around 85% of the production is red, based on the Merlot grape.
