Pauillac

One can only talk in superlatives and with enthusiasm about Pauillac. No doubt, the king commune of the Medoc, nothing can stir up the connoisseur's hearts as much as a good vintage Pauillac. The best vintages can effortlessly and gracefully age for several decades and one gets the impression that they are just not in a hurry. Doing so they develop unthinkable depht and complexity. The signature of this area is power, depht and longevity. This is not all by a miracle, but because Pauillac has a wealth of gravel soil within it's boundaries planted with Cabernet Sauvignon vines that have all the chance of ripening properly on this excellent terroir. And when they do and they make up the larger proportion of the blend one gets the impression that these wines are undestroyable and will live forever. This is all thanks to the unique quality Cabernet fruit. It is not a surprise that the area does not feature a high number of cru bourgeois but classified growths. 3 out of the 5 first growths are here: Ch Mouton Rothschild, Ch Lafite Rothschild, Ch Latour. Ch Pichon Loungueville Baron and Comtesse de Lalande are second growths, Ch Duhart Milon is a fourth growth. In addition Pauillac also has a dozen of fifth growths. (see all these on the 1855 page). It has some 1.200 ha under vine.
