Cotes de Bourg
A big and productive appellation, covers around 3.800 ha of vineyard land. Soil is mainly heavy limestone-clay, the proximity of the Gironde means protection for the vineyards from early spring frosts. The area is also known as Bourg. The wines are based on Merlot and they tend to last for somewhat longer - in general - than the neighboring Premieres Cotes de Blaye reds, drinking best between 4 to 6 - 8 years old.

The proximity of the Gironde moderates the temperatures of the vineyards.
