Cadillac

Until 1973 it formed part of the surrounding Premieres Cotes de Bordeaux, but based on it's special soil attributes - a combination of chalk and gravel - it received separate AOC status. Cadillac is a sweet white wine appellation with wines from noble rot grapes as well as from simply late harvested grapes using Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. Cadillac won't appear on the label of any claret therefore. Some red grapes are planted here, but because the area's focus is sweet whites, reds will bear the more generic Premieres Cotes de Bordeaux name. Less than 300 ha is covered in vineyards.
